Two local teams with the Airdrie Minor Hockey Association are smiling bright this week after winning big at tournaments last weekend (February 3-4).

The Airdrie Female Peewee-A Lightning picked up their third medal of the season at a tournament in Camrose.

The Lightning put up an impressive fight over Lloydminster in their final game to take the Gold Medal 3-2 in overtime.

The Peewee team returns to league action where they sit in first place in their Tier in the Rocky Mountain Female Hockey League.

It was also a winning weekend for the Airdrie Novice Phantoms at their tournament in Beiseker.

Goalie Levi Haubrich was solid in their second game while second-year player Owen Campbell had a hat trick to lead the Phantoms to a win over St. Albert.

That win put the Phantoms in the Bronze medal game against fellow city team, the Airdrie Predators.

Logan Sharp and Hunter Hallaby were impressive as was the entire team as they beat the Predators 5-2 to win the Bronze Medal.

At the end, the Phantom coaches said the kids played hard and deserved every moment they shared.
