Airdrie was in the lacrosse spotlight last night (February 8) as the Rockyview Silvertips hosted the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Jr. B South Draft.

The Silvertips were joined by other teams from Southern Alberta at Airdrie's Woodside Golf Course for the draft.

In the end, the team selected 14 players: Josh "JD" Halcro, Nolan Oakley, Patrick Morrow, Adam Bartolome, Ryan Gulutzun, Noah Dietz, Jack Bruzell-Firesz, Ethan Landymore, Dylan Neis, Bryson White, Andrew Smollett, Bradley Yakiwchuk, Sayder DuckChief and Braydn Crone. Nearly half of them from the Rockyview Lacrosse system.

Head Coach of the Silvertips Tyler Waycott said he's happy with the players they brought to the team.

"We went in with a list, certain needs we wanted to address and add depth to certain roles and we were able to accomplish all that so we were very excited with how the draft went for our team."

This was the first time that Airdrie hosted the Jr. B draft and Waycott said it was important for the community and the organization.

"It was an exciting time for our franchise. I think it was important for our group, especially the people that are still around that have been with the organization for some time now. It's huge for us and definitely huge for our growth for our team."

The draft also showed how much the sport is growing in the city. Waycott believes the team and the Rockyview Lacrosse Association is heading in the right direction.
