They say defense wins games.

Whoever "they" are, they've apparently never met the Airdrie Thunder.  Airdrie's dominant year in the Heritage Junior Hockey League has been largely as a result of running roughshod over the opponents in compiling a 22 and 2 record on the season.

The Thunder have outscored their opponents this season by 135 goals.  The next best stat in the HJHL is the 67 goal differential held by the Okotoks Bisons.

The top five scorers are all members of the Thunder, starting with Jordan McConnell who has amassed a remarkable 82 points in just 21 games, 35 goals, and 47 assists.  That's an average of just under four points a game.

Number two is Rylan Plante-Crough who isn't too shabby either with 33 goals and 38 assists for 71 points.

Rounding out the top five are Cooper Page, Brayden Dunn, and Tristan Paquette.  Add number seven Jason Wenzel and number nine Brett LeGrandeur to the list and you have seven Thunder players in the top ten of league scoring.

The Thunder are coming off just their second loss this season, a 5 - 4 setback at the hands of the Red Deer Vipers on Saturday and are looking to get back to their winning ways when they host the Mountainview Colts from Didsbury on Friday night at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

Game time is 8:00 pm.
