Game One of the Heritage Junior Hockey League's North Division semifinal opened the playoffs yesterday at home. It was the Airdrie Thunder versus the Blackfalds Wranglers in the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

Results from Game One reflected exactly how the Thunder have been performing all season: with a win. The Thunder defeated the Wranglers 4-3 with goals coming from Jason Wenzel, Rylan Plante-Crough, Tyler Petrie and Cooper Page. The Thunder outshot the visitors 55-31.

"Overall, it was a good start to the playoffs," said head coach Derek Stamp. "They pushed us, forced some adversity on us and we were able to respond the right way."

The Thunder just came off a 10-day break and certainly played their heart out. Their record this season is an impressive 35-5 with 70 points, leading both the northern division as well as the league.

The boys will lace up again tomorrow evening (February 21) in Blackfalds as they take on the Wranglers in Game Two. Game begins at 8 p.m.
