The Airdrie Thunder's hold on second place in the Northern Division of the Heritage Junior Hockey League just got a bit more tenuous.

The Thunder travelled to Blackfalds last night for a Tuesday matchup with the Wranglers, the team breathing down their necks for second place. Despite outshooting Blackfalds 40 - 38, the Thunder dropped a 7 - 3 decision.

The Wranglers win pulls them to within two points of Airdrie with each team having two games left to play in the regular season, which wraps up this weekend.

Jacob MacDonald, Jackson Gibson and Dante Raposo had goals in the losing cause for the Thunder.

Airdrie's final two regular-season games are set for Friday night when they host the Mountainview Colts and Saturday night when they travel to Ponoka to face the Wranglers.

Blackfalds take on the first place Vipers in Red Deer on Saturday night then close things out on the road Sunday afternoon against the Stettler Lightning.

Tonight the Mountainview Colts are hoping for a strong performance in Ponoka where they meet the Wranglers.  The Colts are just a point ahead of the Stettler Lightning in the fight for the final playoff spot in the Northern Division.

The Lightning are also in action tonight.  They play the last place Thashers in Three Hills.

The Thrashers have just one win to their credit this season.
