An Airdrie player is among the best graduating grade 12 football players in the province.

Dakota McKay is a six foot, 185-pound receiver from Bert Church High School in Airdrie who'll be playing tomorrow (May 21) in the 29th Annual Senior Bowl High School Football All-Star Game.

McKay will be among the 42 players on the South team that will take on the best from Northern Alberta in the game that takes place starting at 12 noon at Edmonton's Foote Field.

McKay will be joined on the roster by a pair of Cochrane players, linebacker William Eilers and receiver Daniel de Bruin.

The South has dominated the Senior Bowl in recent years, having won the past three games to take a 15 to 12 lead in the series.  One game finished in a tie in 2001.

The record book for the game has a few Airdrie connections. Ryan Saurette, a quarterback with the George McDougall Mustangs was named the Most Valuable Player for the South in 1998.   Matt Hale who took part in the 2000 game for George McDougall had the fourth longest punt in game history when he booted one 59 yards.

Among the list of school programs that have produced the most players all time that have taken part in the game, Bert Church has 19.  The powerful Cochrane High program is the runaway leader with 62 players.
