The Airdrie Xtreme put the jitters behind them and cruised to victory in their first game of the Western Canadian Bantam Hockey Championships in Kamloops yesterday (March 29).

The Xtreme beat the Saskatchewan Champion West Central Wheat Kings 5 - 3.  As is often the case, Airdrie did their scoring by committee, getting goals from five different players, Shaw Cathcart, Brett Moravec, Jaren Brinson, Ty Mueller and Keagan Slaney.  Craig Armstrong chipped in two assists.

Nathan Airey blocked 20 of the 23 shots the Wheat Kings fire his way.   Airdrie outshot the Saskatchewan squad 40 - 23.

Tristan Zandee was named the Xtreme's star of the game.

Today the Xtreme face a pair of opponents.  This morning at 9:00 am they'll take on the B.C. Champions, the Seafair Islanders who also won their first game of the tourney yesterday.   They'll meet the host team, the Thompson Blazers this afternoon at 4:00 pm.  The Blazers went one and one in yesterday's action.

The round robin wraps up tomorrow and the bronze medal and gold medal games are set for Sunday.
