Airdrie City Council has decided to talk with other land owners before making any decision on accommodating a bee research and training facility.

At last night's (Monday) council meeting, council tabled the item on the research and training facility and instructed the Mayor's office to hold further discussions with Rocky View Schools and the Calgary Catholic School District about the feasibility of the facility.

The city and the two school districts each own an undivided one third interest in the land located at 13094 Township Road 272 NW, referred to as the Fletcher Lands.

Council was originally approached with the idea of establishing a bee research and training facility at their meeting of July 4th, 2016.  The proposed facility's primary function would be research into areas such as overwintering, swarming and bee diseases.

There is no word yet on when discussions between the three land owners might be held.  All three need to agree on the request and, at this point in time, neither school board is interested in pursuing development of the land.
