Today and tomorrow (June 1-2), around 150 Airdrie and area 4H members will head to the Stampede Grounds in Calgary for their annual 4H on Parade.

Lexi Hoy, 4H Specialist with the Calgary Region, says the event is a time to gather 4H members to have fun and show what they've been doing all year.

"We have a beef female show, we have a beef steer show, we have a horse show, a canine show and we have our sheep show happening. We also have many life skills clubs that have their projects on display. That's things like welding, cooking, sewing."

This year will be a special one at 4H on Parade, as 4H Alberta is celebrating 100 years in the province. Hoy says they'll be commemorating the origins of the club, which first started just up the highway from Airdrie in Olds.

"We have stall displays that will be celebrating 4H Alberta's centennial as well as Canada's 150th anniversary this year."

Hoy says 4H tries to instill leadership skills in Alberta youth.

"We, as 4H, try to have youth that come out and have fun most importantly, but they also develop skills that they can use in later life, such as learning how to run a meeting, how to plan an event, and the one that everyone knows is public speaking abilities."

Hoy says anyone is welcome to pop by over the next two days to check out the event.
