Drivers along 8th Street in Airdrie have had to work their way around pylons and construction workers for the past month as work continues on the road's widening project.

Although construction was originally scheduled to be completed by September 30th, the recent rainy weather has literally put a damper on the project.

"We've extended the contractors completion date by about two weeks right now just to inclemental weathers," says Adam Carroll with the City of Airdrie's Engineering Department. "We had some rain days, some times that we had to account for and that's just expected."

Carroll explains that the water from the rainfall would have to be cleared and pumped away in order for crews to continue to work on building the road.

While you might have to endure more detours and slow speeds for a while longer, Carroll says the end result will be worth it.

"It will be a 4 way arterial divided roadway. We're installing three new sets of traffic signals...it'll end just south of 40th avenue."
