An issue that, if posts on Facebook are any indication, is one that's very close to the hearts of many Airdronians, will get another once over at City Council's regular meeting later today (June 18).

The issue of backyard fire pits is once again on the council agenda as Deputy Fire Chief Linda Masson and the Team Leader for Municipal Enforcement Lynn McKenzie provide council with information on time restrictions on their use.

When an Airdrie resident brought up the subject at council a few weeks ago, saying restrictions on backyard pits should be implemented as his ability to enjoy his backyard and his physical health was being affected by his neighbour's fire pit, it sparked countless posts on Facebook with most saying fire pits didn't need to be regulated.

Council will also be provided with correspondence on the matter from an Airdrie resident.

A public input session is being held at today's meeting on the 12 Thousand Acre Plan, being a growth management and development sequencing strategy providing a framework for the development of Community Area Structure Plans within the 12,640 acres of land that was annexed by the city in 2012.  Following the public input session, council will be asked to approve and adopt the plan.

The Airdrie Pride Society will ask council to proclaim June 2018 as International Pride Month in Airdrie.

Many other agenda items face council today when they hold the public portion of their meeting starting at 3:30 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall.
