For some Airdronians who are working toward their Journeyman ticket within the trades, there may be a source of financial support.

Marlin Schmidt, Minister of Advanced Education announced on Thursday, October 20th, that the Government is investing a total of $1.5 million to help unemployed apprentices advance in their training.

Approximately 1500 apprentices are eligible for the $1000 financial benefit.

To qualify, apprentices must not be working in their trade and must have successfully completed their first period of technical training. They must also be registered for technical training at a post-secondary institution or other training partner.

“Supporting apprentices at every step of their technical training is critical for their success and for our economy recovery," said Schmidt. "This new Apprentice Training Award is part of our government’s commitment to ensure Albertans are future ready, so they can move from a good education to good jobs in a changing economy.”

Eligible apprentices will be notified by the government and will receive the payment beginning in January 2017.
