It's an award that carries royal significance, and an Airdrie Cadet has it.

Warrant Officder Ryland Kruk recently achieved Gold status for the Duke of Edinburgh award.

Kruk has been a member of the 88 Lynx Royal Canadian Air Cadets in Airdrie since 2011 and exceeded the necessary volunteer hours and physical fitness needed to reach gold.

The Duke of Edinburgh award is a national honour given to youth across Canada to recognize service to their community through recreational activities and social groups.

You can find more on the award program at their website.
