The classic story of Robin Hood will get a fresh makeover this weekend when it's peformed by youth age 12 to 16.

Torchlight Theatre's Spark program will perform the play for the final time this weekend at 2:00 pm this afternoon (March 24) at the Airdrie Victory Church.  Chelsea Restall is the Artistic Director with Torchlight Theatre and says this is meant to give young people a taste for theatre.

"We wanted to do this to give them a taste of what performance is like because there's not a lot of roles for really young kids so we've taken these modern plays, these adult plays and given them to the youth to do what they do and they do it very well.

There are eleven performers in the show and two backstage workers.  "We kind of open up the backstage and the technical side of things to students who are more interested in it.  Right now we have one girl who stepped in to help backstage and she's passionate for directing."

Restall says Robin Hood is a classic tale.  "Good versus evil, Robin Hood versus the sheriff.  It's a little bit of a different take on it.  Shockingly there's no bow and arrow involved.  It'll be familiar, but a little different."

The kids have worked on the production for some time now.  "They auditioned in October and they've been working with us every Saturday, except for holidays and stuff, since October."
