Two people were rushed to hospital and one has been pronounced deceased after a fatal collision occurred on Highway 566 at Range Road 13.

At around 3:15p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, emergency crews from Calgary and Airdrie were called to the scene, where they found an SUV and a sedan had collided with both vehicles sustaining significant damage.

"Of the three injured, the first person that EMS assessed was a female, believed to be in her 20's or 30's, and she was determined deceased on scene by EMS based on the injuries she sustained in the incident," said Adam Loria, paramedic with Alberta Health Services.

The deceased female was one of the occupants inside the sedan, along with another female, also in her 20's or 30's, who received external and internal injuries and was rushed to the Foothills Medical Centre in potentially life-threatening condition via ground ambulance.

The occupant of the SUV, a male in his 60's or 70's, received external and internal injuries and was rushed to hospital via STARS Air Ambulance, also in potentially life-threatening condition.

The cause of the accident is not known at this time and the highway remained closed for several hours for investigation.
