An air quality advisory has been issued for Airdrie and Cochrane due to the shift in winds, pushing smoke from the wildfires in Banff National Park and Central BC in our direction.

Although smoke does not usually effect healthy individuals, you may experience coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. If symptoms persist and become worse, contact your physician or Health Link at 811.

For children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular (angina, previous heart attack and congestive heart failure) or lung diseases (asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease - COPD), it is recommended that you remain indoors with the windows closed.

Minimizing physical activity outdoors will also reduce your risk of symptoms.

Air quality is expected to improve from north to south today, with winds pushing the smoke out of the area.
