RCMP from Airdrie and Cochrane came together to arrest a pair of men on Christmas Eve after they stole a truck, then set off a series of incidents.

Corporal Michael Dunsmore says around 11:15 am on December 24th, Airdrie and Cochrane RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision between the stolen truck and an SUV at the corner of Bearspaw Road and Burma Road.

"It was reported at the time that there were no injuries in the collision.  While en route to that collision we received updates from the public that two males from one of those affected vehicles were attempting to flee the scene.  Another motorist had slowed down to render assistance and these two males from that collision tried to remove that motorist from her vehicle to aid in their flight from the scene.  They were unsuccessful."

Dunsmore says the woman managed to drive away and the men fled the area on foot. The suspects were then seen entering garages and also tried to steal another vehicle in an attempt to find a way to escape.

"Residents in the area provided updates on the location of the two males," says Dunsmore.  "They were ultimately apprehended by the RCMP without incident.:

Dunsmore says the truck they were driving when they collided with the SUV was found to have been stolen from Calgary earlier in the day.

The two, aged 39 and 34, are now facing numerous charges including dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, break and enter, mischief, and breaching court orders.

Both were to be held pending hearings before a Justice of the Peace.  As charges have not been laid yet, no names are being released at this time.

The Cochrane RCMP are asking anyone who might have information on these events to call them at 403 851-8000 or contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
