The next chapter of Airdrie's City Council began last night (October 23rd) as all seven members were officially sworn in.

Mayor Peter Brown was the first to take the oath of office after he was reelected for a third term last Monday. Brown says he's looking forward to getting back to work.

"I'm excited for my council colleagues and just getting ready to get back to work. We've got a lot of things planned for the future and I'm really excited to be a part of it."

The new council includes two newcomers and Brown says he's excited to work with them and share their visions for the City.

"You could see the excitement on their face, there's some new members, Councillor Jones and Councillor Petrow, they're very excited. We're really looking forward to getting to work."

Kelly Hegg, Darrell Belyk, Ron Chapman and Candice Kolson are returning for another term in office, which Brown says will only add to helping build the community forward.

Brown did take time during the ceremony to thank all those who ran in the October 16th election and gave his thanks to outgoing Councillors Fred Burley and Allan Hunter.

"They both contributed a lot to the organization but they also contributed a lot to the community. I know them both and they're going to continue to do that as they move forward."

The new council will undergo orientation this week before they take their seats for the first time at their organizational meeting on October 30th.
