An Airdrie dog handler is among the best in the business after finishing high in the final round of the World Stock Dog Championship at the Calgary Stampede.

Kier Scott, with his dog Sweep, finished in sixth place in yesterday's (July 11) final.  Scott and his dog rebounded after being in 23rd place after the first go round and advanced to the final following the second go.

Kier's dad Milt, who won the World Championship in 2016, didn't have as much success this year and failed to make the final with either of his dogs.

This year's title went to an Okotoks dog handler, Billie Richardson and her dog Dan.  Dan is the first Australian Shepherd to earn the title in the event's 22-year history.

60 handler and dog teams competed in the championship where handlers must use whistle and voice commands to direct their dogs in herding three sheep through a 21 point final course in under four minutes.

Handlers came from as far away as Florida to compete at the Stampede.
