Airdrie fire crews were called to an apartment fire this morning (September 30) on the 300 block of McKenzie Way SW.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Garth Rabel, the call of smoke in the building came in at 10:22 am.  Rabe; says, "On arrival, crews found that residents had evacuated from a four-story, multi-family apartment block.  Roughly 35 people have temporarily been evacuated and are waiting (as of 12:00 pm) directions from the fire department.  The crews did find a small fire which was limited to one apartment, room, and contents."

Rabel says the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau.  Residents should be allowed to return to their apartments shortly and there are no reports of any injuries and no estimate of the damage.

Rabel says 14 firefighters using four fire apparatus responded to the fire.
