With the biggest awards show in Hollywood set to go tomorrow (March 4th), we asked local film enthusiasts who they think will win the top honours at the Oscars.

Airdrie Director Mitch George says he's looking forward to the big event.

"We sit down, we look at everyone involved and we thank them and we appreciate everything that they've brought to the production. I love it, from costume design to directing, to film editing; all those roles that don't really get noticed that much, I think it's important to have a night to celebrate it."

Award-winning playwright and Airdrie's own Kim Cheel says it's good to celebrate the best films of 2018, but it's not always the best that win.

"In all the awards, it really based on campaigning and it's not always based on the work. However, there is a lot of great stuff on the lists here."

Nonetheless, both George and Cheel made their bold predictions for the awards ceremony and who they believe will win Best Picture.

"I think that 'Get Out' was just so amazing and it was quite incredible. You should definitely watch it if you can. 'Get Out' will definitely win Best Picture," says George who also tapped Jordan Peele for Best Director.

"I would love 'Get Out' or 'Ladybird' to win it and maybe there's going to be a shakeup, but I'm going to go with 'The Shape of Water', I've been seeing that a lot in the media," says Cheel who was torn on the selection for Best Director, saying either Greta Gerwig, Jordan Peele or Guillermo del Toro could walk away with it.
