Many Airdronians will be relying on the Airdrie Food Bank to feed their families this Thanksgiving.

Staff at the Food Bank have been seeing a huge increase in clients lately, with September being their busiest month in recent memory.

"Our community does step up, they give us funds in order to buy the perishables, so we didn't have turkeys up to a week ago so we actually picked some up with donated funds." said Lori McRitchie, Executive Director, Airdrie Food Bank.

Currently, the Food Bank distributes just over 50 hampers per week. A hamper supplies 7-10 days worth of food.

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, the Food Bank aims to ensure everyone can enjoy a dinner with family and friends.

"We're trying to get programs in place so that people can have a Thanksgiving dinner," said McRitchie. "We've got a couple of things going on."

The Food Bank will be partnering with Smitty's to host a Thanksgiving dinner for those in need.

Airdrie residents are encouraged to bring by any food bank items that could be used for a Thanksgiving dinner, including turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Besides Thanksgiving, they are also in need of large diapers.
