Sports are known for bringing Canadians together and as the 2019 Canada Winter Games approach, one torch has been lighting up communities from across the country.

The Canada Games Torch Relay was lit in Ottawa by the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill back in October, and now it'll finally be making a Celebration Stop to Airdrie on January 22nd, 2019.

Before the torch continues it's the journey to the Opening Ceremony in Red Deer on February 15th, Airdrie residents can go to Genesis Place from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, for some Celebration Stop festivities.

Mayor Peter Brown, federal MP Blake Richards, and provincial MLA Angela Pitt will be attending the Celebration and share some remarks.

By the time the Torch reaches Red Deer, it will have stopped in 48 communities in Canada.

The 2019 Canada Winter Games will feature over 150 events in 19 sports, while also showcasing arts and cultural festivities.

Not only do the games make an economic impact, but they also offer Canada's next generation of athletics an opportunity to compete and this year, the 2019 Canada Winter Games has welcomed up to 3,600 athletes, coaches and managers.
