It was a huge effort by a local group to bring Hockeyville to Airdrie.

Unfortunately on Saturday, (March 4th) the community watched as their City didn't crack the top ten for Hockeyville 2017.

"There's always disappointment," says Marc Smith of the Airdrie Dads Facebook group, "It was kind of a big long process that you're kinda hoping and hoping...you got to be supportive of the cities that won."

Smith along with hundreds from the city put together a video showcasing Airdrie's Hockey and Community Spirit titled, "We Are Airdrie."

"It just exploded," said Smith, "I probably watched it 30 times, I was blown away. I still get goosebumps watching all the kids yell 'we are Airdrie'. It blew my mind."

While it's disappointment for Airdrie, there's a sense of joy north of the city after Didsbury was named to the top ten, one of only two Alberta communities to make it.

"If they can win it, why not," says Smith, "Keep it in Alberta and keep it as local as possible."
