On Thursday (November 9), members of the Airdrie Lions Club attended a cheque presentation, where they handed a cheque for $2,915 to the Airdrie Public Library.

Marilyne Aalhus, Fund Development and Marketing Coordinator for the Airdrie Public Library, said the money was raised through a golf tournament held on May 26. The tournament was a partnership between the Lions and the Library.

"The proceeds from the tournament came back to the Airdrie Public Library, so that was a really fun partnership that we did," said Aalhus. "Thanks to the Lions, we've been able to really enhance some of our programs and services in our facility."

Keith Wilkinson, Past President with Airdrie Lions, explained the donation was actually made to the Library earlier in the summer, but since the Lions don't meet in the summer months, they had to postpone the presentation until last week.

Aalhus said the Lions have partnered with the Library for over a decade, and have helped fund things like the Library's teen den, children's collection and public iPad's.

"The library is very, very lucky to have amazing service clubs in this community supporting us regularly, so without them we really wouldn't be able to do a lot of the work that we do."

Wilkinson said the Lions believe it is important to support resources, services and programs in the community that are already working.

"It's really important for us as an Airdrie Club, as the Airdrie Lions Club, to make sure that if we're raising money or hosting events or participating in events in Airdrie, that we're supporting the resources that are already here instead of trying to reinvent the wheel."

Aalhus explained the funds have not yet been allocated by the Library.
