RCMP officers from Airdrie and Didsbury were called in to help Olds RCMP with a pursuit over the weekend.

The incident started Saturday around noon when mounties were called to reports of a possible fraud at the Town of Olds registries office.

Upon arriving on scene, mounties say the suspect got into a Jeep and drove into the responding police vehicle, then into the registries office building before speeding away.

The pursuit continued on the highway and through country roads, ending after approximately one hour when the Jeep got stuck in a wheat field east of Crossfield.

RCMP say the driver tried fleeing on foot through the field, but was quickly arrested. The Jeep was determined to have been stolen out of the Three Hills area.

Innisfail resident Bernard Michael Sontheim, 28, remains in custoday and is facing 25 charges including assault with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving, and possession of stolen property.

He was also arrested on warrants for more than 60 offences from throughout Alberta. He is set to appear in Didsbury court on August 19.
