Airdrie community organizations were among more than 1,200 non-profit projects across Alberta that received grant support from the Alberta government in 2016 - 2017.

The government says grants for community groups ranged in size from $2,000 for the purchase of equipment to $800,000 to assist with the building of new facilities.

Alberta's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Ricardo Miranda says the community grants programs help build stronger, healthier and more inclusive communities.

"I'm proud that our government supports non-profit organizations that are working hard delivering programs and services that make life better for Albertans and give communities an opportunity to thrive."

According to the government's report, the Airdrie B.M.X Association received $55,545 for facility upgrades to the Airdrie B.M.X track through the Community Facility Enhancement Program. The same program granted $125,000 to the North Rocky View Community Links Society for Phase One of their "One Location" project.

The Community Initiatives Program Operating Stream gave the Airdrie Boy's and Girl's Club $40,000 to help them with travel, rent and other operating costs.

The Rotary Club of Airdrie received $25,000 through the Community Initiatives Program International Development Stream to build ten homes for impoverished families in El Salvador.
