Early this morning (September 25th), Airdrie RCMP attended a peculiar occurrence on Highway 2 near Balzac.

"Approximately 4:00am, Airdrie RCMP received several calls with regards to a horse galloping on the highway," said Cst. Dan Martin, "He was in the northbound lanes at the time of the call."

Police had some help corralling the loose horse.

"There was two truck drivers that pulled over and kind of forced or pushed the horse into the ditch to keep him off the highway. One of the truck drivers improvised a harness out of a tow strap and was able to tie up the horse."

The truck drivers stayed with the horse until RCMP figured out how to safely transport it away from the scene.

"Airdrie RCMP were making several attempts to contact possible owners in the area without any luck, and at that time it was decided to call Airdrie Towing & Recovery to see if they could lend a hand with getting the horse back to Airdrie."

Eventually, the owner of the horse contacted the RCMP, and the horse was returned to the owner safe and sound.
