Airdrie RCMP arrested two men last Wednesday (August 23) while they tried to steal copper wire from a construction site on Kingfisher Crescent.

"They weren't able to leave with any," said Cst. Dan Martin, "They did cause some damage. They were cutting it and pulling it out of the ground and what not. Copper wire is obviously quite expensive so the potential for loss there was quite high."

Police were alerted to the crime by an off-site security company that had surveillance of the area, and several units were dispatched to the scene.

After attempting to flee, 33 year old Christopher Aaron Johnson and 36 year old Raymond Kenneth Johnson, both of Calgary, were arrested.

"The two males were caught and arrested on sight. Subsequent to arrest, they were able to locate some break in tools on the two males."

The two men, who were well known to Police, now face multiple charges.

"They're both facing charges of theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, possession of break-in tools, and one count each of breach of probation."

Johnson and Johnson were both remanded into custody, and are scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Alberta in Airdrie today (August 31).
