Police are investigating two break-ins at local pharmacies that are believed to be connected.

According to Cst. Dan Martin, the first break-in occurred around 3:30 am on January 14 at the Village Medical Pharmacy located on Centre Avenue East. The two male suspects then proceeded to the Sandstone Pharmacy on 8th Street at 3:50am, where they carried out the second break-in.

"On one of them, they were able to take off with a bag of narcotics, a duffle bag full, and a laptop. At the Sandstone Pharmacy, they left empty handed due to the narcotics being locked up in a safe."

Cst. Martin said police have determined the intent of the break-ins was to obtain prescription drugs.

"On both break-ins, the two suspects entered the pharmacy and went straight for the narcotics cabinet, indicating that that's basically all they were after."

Through video surveillance, police determined that the suspects had visited both pharmacies earlier in the night. Cst. Martin said the suspects cased the pharmacies, driving past each. At the Sandstone Pharmacy, they actually popped a lock on an exterior door, left, and returned hours later with a pry bar that was used to smash the inner door. The video also helped police link the two crimes

"Surveillance was obtained at both sites, and we were able to determine that it's the same two suspects that broke into both places on the same night."

The first man was wearing a grey hoodie, white ball cap, black face covering, jeans, gloves with reflective stripes, sneakers. He also carried a blue and black duffle bag. The second suspect wore a black jacket or hoodie over top of a grey or green hoodie, along with dark sweatpants, sneakers, and black and yellow gloves.
