The Airdrie RCMP have arrested two youths for setting grass fires in the city over the past days and believe there may be others involved.

Constable Dan Martin says there have been seven grass fires in Airdrie.  "Initially they started on Tuesday around noon in the area of Woodside but they're not contained to that area.  Investigators are working hard on this right now.  There have been two youths arrested and we believe there are others involved as well.  We're basically reaching out the public to review any video surveillance they might have or if they've seen anything suspicious with regard to these fires starting to contact Airdrie RCMP."

Some of the fires occurred on Woodside Drive, Willowbrook Way, Summerfield Boulevard, Summerwood Place and Elizabeth Way.

Martin says the youths started small fires with the cotton that comes off of trees at this time of year.  He says nothing of value has been burned at this time, but the potential for more serious fires to start is great.

"Certainly the potential for the damage from fires and the hazards is quite serious and we're taking this very seriously," says Martin.

The RCMP are hoping that someone might have captured some of the other suspects involved on surveillance or dash cam video.  Martin says, "We're just looking for people to come forward and report anything that they've seen.  If anybody has video surveillance we'd ask that they review it and if they have something that might be of value, small as it might be, it might be quite helpful to investigators."
