The Airdrie RCMP held a fraud prevention meeting at a local home for the elderly facility yesterday.

Constable Wayne Wong held the meeting in hopes to educate seniors on warning signs of fraud.

Wong says its everybody's responsibility to educate each other and be mindful of fraud prevention.

"I believe its a little bit of everybody responsibility when it comes to people like our senior citizens, the family plays a huge part in fraud prevention and education."

Over the past year, a common scam attempted by fraudsters includes impersonating a Canada Tax Revenue agent and threatening the victim.

Wong says if they threaten you that is a clear warning sign it is fraud.

"If someone is making threats, especially from the CRA its fake. If they say they have a warrant for your arrest or demand money immediately, hang up and call the RCMP."

Constable Wong says he wants everyone to feel like they can talk to the RCMP about these kinds of events and he loves getting out in the community and educating people.

"I find great peace of mind coming out and educating people and I hope they do too know that someone does care regardless of the amount we want to know what happened to you. You don't need to feel ashamed your not the only one that has been victimized by fraud."
