The City of Airdrie is thrilled after being one of 50 municipalities to receive grant funding from the Provincial Government's CARES program.

"It's called the Community and Regional Economic Support Program so the CARES program. It's really designed to generate economic development within all the municipalities through Alberta," explained Team Lead for Economic Development Kent Rupert.

Rupert said they requested just under $170,000 back in May and are looking forward to using to money to help grow Airdrie's economy.

"This program is sort of a little more open so it allows us to apply for a bit more. It's really about economic development and job creation."

The City says they will use the money to help with four major projects dealing with Airdrie's aspiring entrepreneurs, Downtown redevelopment ideas, land use and development and attracting more workers to Airdrie.

The CARES funding was presented last Thursday (November 23) during the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association's Convention in Red Deer.

City Councillor Ron Chapman was at the convention and received the cheque from Alberta Trade Minister Deron Bilous on behalf of the City of Airdrie.
