Earlier this week, the Airdrie Lioness Club issued an urgent plea to the community for donations. Airdrie answered the call, and the Lioness were able to fill all of their Christmas hampers.

On Monday (December 11), Lioness Vice-President Cindy Savitsky said the club lacked sufficient donations to fill about 60 hampers. Today (December 15), Savitsky was happy to report that the community stepped up and the Lioness Club will be able to fill all of their hampers.

"Airdrie came to the rescue, and they brought in gifts and groceries and gift cards and cash. We were able to complete all those sixty hampers. It was a phenomenal response to our plea for help."

Savitsky said if members of the community are still in the giving mood, they can always use cash donations to help purchase fresh produce for the hampers.

"That's bacon, bread, milk, oranges, celery, potatoes, onions. We try to do complete produce for Christmas dinner, so that costs us about twelve thousand, fourteen thousand dollars every year and every family gets it."

In the end, Savitsky and the Club were grateful from the bottom of their hearts for Airdrie's support. Savitsky choked up as she thanked Airdrie residents and businesses.

"Without them, this program does not survive. It's been an incredible, incredible showing of support and it's helping our neediest families. Everybody's going to have a Merry Christmas and food on their table and food in their pantry and gifts under their tree because of our community."
