Some Airdrie and area competitors have appear to have the right stuff in the Western and Agriculture events at the 2017 Calgary Stampede.

The father - son duo of Milt and Kier Scott of Airdrie both made the finals of the World Stock Dog Championships with Milt actually taking two of the top spots.

He placed third with his dog Josie and finished sixth along with his dog Finn in the event which was won by Norm Sommer of Pleasantdale, Saskatchewan along with his dog Mark.

Milt's son Kier was a bit unfortunate in the finals when he and his dog Sweep were disqualified leaving the pair in 12th place.  Kier and Sweep had been in third spot after the first go of the competition.

In the National Cutting Horse Association World Series of Cutting, Master Mate, a horse owned by Cam Clark of Airdrie, finished in a tie for third in the Open Class.  Master Mate was ridden by Doug Reinhard of Irricana.  QB Cat, owned by David and Stacie McDavid of Fort Worth, Texas and ridden by Clint Allen from Weatherford, Texas placed first.

In the NCHA World Series Non Pro Finals, Kalia Stewart of Crossfield rode her horse Clays Little CD to a second place finish.  Stewart finished just one half point behind another Texas horse, Rue Du Ichi, owned by Yancy and Shannon Lamb from Boerne, Texas.
