As warmer days continue and pandemic restrictions are set to hopefully lift soon, could that mean big changes for Airdrie's real estate market?

According to local realtor Shilo Storey with Re/Max First, there hasn't been much change in real estate the past year as it is still a buyer's market.

However, the biggest change she has seen in the last few months is the price.

"Our pricing has increased pretty much 10 per cent over last year. In our downturn and with our economy over the last five or six years, our prices were down a lot from historic highs."

According to data from MLS, the average house price in Airdrie currently sits around $416,000, a massive increase from the same time a year ago when average prices were in the $320,000 range.

Despite the news of fewer restrictions coming this summer, Shilo doesn't anticipate a major shift in the market just yet.

"I think a lot of people will be going on holidays and seeing family, so I do see it slowing down a little over the summer months like in past years but I don't see the overall market or pricing really being affected for the rest of this year."

The City of Airdrie reported over 1,922 residential sales in 2020, up from 1,600 the year before while the number of dwellings residences has increased by more than 12,000 since 2010.
