So where does Airdrie fall into this? well according to Pertti Harkoen, Team Leader for the City's building inspections, Airdrie continues to grow at an amazing rate.

"Last year we were over 5% growth again in the City of Airdrie, it's a phenomenal number when you consider looking at other communities that are excited about having 1% or 2% growth we are still growing at plus five percent in Airdrie so there is substantial growth continuing in Airdrie."

In Airdrie, the residential sectors building permits value was 373 thousand dollars, that works out to be an estimated 39 million dollars in construction value. That includes duplexes, townhouses, demos and other factors. Single-family homes estimated construction value alone is an estimated 28 million dollars and the number of permits for single-family homes continues to rise.

"Single-family residential permits given in the first quarter would be 69 in 2016, 103 in 2017 and 112 in 2018."

The Commercial/Industrial sector is continuing to rise as well after seeing the estimated construction value in January rise from 86,875 dollars to 14.1 million dollars in March.

"I believe that our growth is going to continue to go up steady with our building permits as the developers come on stream and the economy picks up a little bit you are going to see an increase in residential and commercial volume over the next five years."
