The Government of Alberta has responded after holding their emergency cabinet meeting on Wednesday (January 31st).

The meeting came as a result of a decision by the Government of British Columbia to consider restricting bitumen shipments between the provinces.

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley has called the move unconstitutional and now she's taking action.

"I'm sending a letter to the Premier of B.C. to advise him that we have formally suspended all talks to do with the purchasing of electricity from B.C. through existing interties. These are purchases, that had these discussions been completed, would have contributed up to $500 Million per year to British Columbia."

Notley also spoke with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau yesterday during his trip to Edmonton. In a public address earlier that day, Trudeau stated that the Trans Mountain Pipeline between the provinces will be built.

With that support behind them, Notley is confident that the Federal Government will do what they need to step in.

"The B.C. Government has no ability to make regulations or anything else about what goes in those pipelines and the Federal Government needs to make that very clear."

Notley once again mentioned the possibility of taking the B.C. Government to court if they continue their restrictions on bitumen.
