Yesterday (September 10), the Provincial Government and Parks Canada gave an update on the wildfires burning in Southwestern Alberta.

According to Parks Canada, the biggest fire near Waterton Lakes is over 9,000 hectares in size and has already forced the evacuation of the National Park and the town of Waterton.

Dozens of evacuees from that town have already registered in nearby Pincher Creek.

The Provincial Government says that 670 firefighters, 72 helicopters, 50 pieces of heavy equipment and 16 air tankers are available to help battle the fire.

The weather forecast is not showing signs of hope for those battling the blaze as temperatures stay in the mid to high twenties with no rain in sight for the next 24 hours. Strong winds will also continue to blow through the region.
