Since the flu vaccine started being given out on September 27th more than 1.1 million people in the province have lined up to get stuck in the arm.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) said as influenza season was getting underway, and as the COVID-19 pandemic was raging on, it would be wise for Albertans to get vaccinated for the flu as many of the symptoms of the two are similar.

AHS now says 1,142,419 doses of flu vaccine have been given since the start of the vaccination program.  That compares with just over 1.4 people that were vaccinated during the last flu season from August 25th, 2019 to May 2nd of this year.  It's also a 22 percent increase over the number of people vaccinated for the flu by this time last year.

The AHS Calgary Zone, which includes the City of Airdrie has received the most vaccinations with 488,378.  The Edmonton Zone is next with 394,830 people immunized.

So far there have been no laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza recorded in Alberta.

Over 25 percent of the province is now immunized against influenza.
