Another candidate has thrown her hat in the ring for this year's municipal election.

After years of sitting on the sidelines, Daria Skibington-Roffel has decided to run for City Council in October.

"I wanted to run in the last two, but I didn't feel like I had enough knowledge to do so. This year, seeing that the AirdrieONE plan seems to be part of the strategic plan, I thought this would be a perfect time to run."

Skibington-Roffel was involved with the plan in 2009.

As a ten year resident of Airdrie, Skibington-Roffel said she loves the city. Her campaign will have a strong focus on Airdrie's identity, with particular view to differentiate the city from its larger neighbour to the South.

"Airdrie's always been seen as sort of a subsidiary of Calgary. I really want to see that change. I would love to see Airdrie recognized as its own city with its own strengths and culture."
