The need is still great, and once again this year Airdronians helped fill it for the Airdrie Lioness Club during their Christmas Hamper Program.

This weekend, the Lioness' wrapped up the program by distributing 367 hampers to needy families in the city.  President Rhonda Auclair said that was almost on par with last year when 372 hampers were given out.  She said that this year's campaign has been wonderful for the club.

"It's just been a really wonderful spirit of Airdrie campaign.  Everyone's participated, we've had many, many sponsors, lots of volunteers.  It's a real joyful time for the whole community."

On Saturday the Lioness took about 80 hampers to seniors and other people who don't have the means to pick them up themselves.  Then, on Sunday, the remaining hampers were distributed from the old fire hall in Airdrie. Auclair choked up when talking about most families reaction when receiving the hampers.

"These people are so grateful. If the residents of Airdrie could just see the joyfulness in their eyes and experience the relief they have in order to give their children some gifts for Christmas."

Auclair expressed thanks to the entire Airdrie community on behalf of the Lioness Club.

"Thank you Airdrie for coming out and for supporting all of these people because you make their Christmas.  It's so touching that the city of Airdrie want to give back in such a huge way."
