Have you ever wondered why your house was a target of a break-in while your neighbours homes go untouched?

A study out of Portland, Oregon recently got answers to that very question from 87 convicts currently serving time for breaking and entering.

Each convict was asked 17 questions ranging from how they broke in to what they would recommend to home owners to prevent becoming a target.

When asked if a security system would deter them, many responded by saying that security systems didn't phase them and that many knew how to disarm them.

The most common times of day many burglars chose to access a home was early morning and afternoon.

Homes with high fences, poor lighting, and overgrown trees were identified as easy targets for burglars.

The top recommendations made by the convicts to protect your home were keeping a car in the driveway, having a visible security camera, and leaving a television or radio on in the house at all times.
