If you are a homeowner, you'll want to check your mailbox in the next few days because assessment notices are on their way.

"The assessment notices will be mailed on Thursday the fourth," said City Assessor Valerie Cottreau, "People will receive them as early as the fifth, however if you haven't received your assessment notice by the fifteenth I would suggest contacting the Assessment Department at the City of Airdrie."

Assessment notices are based on the estimated market value of each home in Airdrie as of July 1, 2017, and are used in the calculation of property taxes.

Cottreau said it's important that homeowners receive an assessment notice and review it. A 60 day review period follows the mailing of the notice, and any resident can contact the Assessment Department with questions.

"If the value doesn't look appropriate to you or you don't feel it's a fair market value, you can definitely call into the Assessment office and an Assessor will speak with you and review all the information that we do have on your account to ensure it's accuracy."

The deadline for review is March 12.

This year's tax rate will not be set by City Council until the end of May, and the City will not be able to tell you how much you'll pay in taxes until it is set. After the tax rate is set, tax notices will be mailed out, and taxes will be due in the summer.
