After an early morning of freezing temperatures and flurries, Balzac Billy awoke from his burrow and made his prediction.

The Balzac Business Community Association teamed up with Bluegrass Garden Center to hold their 15th Annual Balzac Billy Breakfast. Attendees to the event were treated to a free pancake breakfast with a live band for entertainment before Billy awoke from his slumber.

At approximately 8:11 A.M Balzac Billy began to awake, tossing dirt through the air and rising into the -28 frigid temperatures outside. Once Billy was outside he let out a big stretch, looked around and did not see his shadow. If the groundhog does not see his shadow it is believed that there will be an early spring.

The event had over three hundred attendees including multiple media outlets and local businesses. Steve Neubauer, an organizer for the Balzac Business community association says he was extremely happy with the turnout.

"By plate count, we had over three hundred and thirty people. This is the beginning of February at seven in the morning and it is freezing out there."

The first official Balzac billy recording was in 1978 when Balzac Billy was a Richardson ground squirrel.
