The Veteran's Food Bank has been feeling the pinch of the economy, with shelves that are starting to look bare.

In the six years that Joey Bleviss, Chief Administrative Officer for Calgary Poppy Fund and Veterans Food Bank has worked at the Food Bank, this is the first time he has seen the shelves so empty.

The Airdrie Professional Firefighters Association has joined the fight to fill the shelves for veterans by hosting a food drive until November 15.

All food donations can be made at all three fire halls in Airdrie, or cash donations can be made online at www.canadianlegacy.org/veterans-food-drive.

Bleviss said that the food drive has already made a difference, with shelves slowly starting to fill up.

"We've got volunteers right now that are sorting through the food donations and are putting them on the shelves as we speak."

Once the food drive is over the need does not go away, Bleviss said that if you want to continue donating to the Veterans Food Bank, you can drop off your donations at the Airdrie Legion.
