The Better Business Bureau in Southern Alberta is taking action in light of food bank usage statistics released earlier this week.

Leah Brownridge with the BBB says this is one way for local businesses to thank the community through a positive impact.

"The goal is to just give back and help people who are struggling during this time of year, the holiday season."

All donations will remain in the communities in which they are donated.

"We think it's extremely important to have all of the donations that are dropped off in the specific communities and areas stay in those areas," said Brownridge, "You want to make sure that you are having as much of an impact as you can for the people that truly need those donations."

Brownridge hopes that local businesses will band together to make a positive impact in their communities.

"It's always great to support local businesses, and it's even better when local businesses team up together for a united team effort to support local charities."

The food drive will run until December 15. Donations in Airdrie benefiting the Airdrie Food Bank can be dropped off at Downward Dog Grooming Studio. In Cochrane, donations can be dropped off at Resolve Legal Group to benefit the Cochrane Food Bank
