You may see more flowers and hear more buzzing after an approval at city council Monday night.

The City of Airdrie has moved forward with draft guidelines for urban beekeeping.

Under these draft guidelines, before someone can partake in the urban beekeeping project they must have approval from their neighbours and the city.

Gail Gibeau, a Senior Planner with the City of Airdrie says there is a series of things people must complete to be an urban beekeeper.

"The guidelines are fairly extensive, there are mandatory training requirements, registration with the province and general beekeeping course.  We will have this posted on the project's websites."

The city starts accepting applications for the pilot project in December.

Airdrie is also moving forward with becoming a Bee City Canada Community.  The organization is a non-profit group that encourages municipalities to protect pollinators.
