The risk of carbon monoxide poisoning goes up significantly in the Winter.

With more people warming up their cars and using more heat sources, it's important to keep you and your loved ones protected.

"It's very difficult to detect, it's colorless, odorless, tasteless, and as such you really need to have a carbon monoxide detector installed." said Jared Anderst with ATCO Gas.

The best place to install your detector is near where you sleep, as most deaths occur when victims are sleeping and can't detect the poisoning.

If you have a wood burning fireplace, you should keep a window cracked while using it. You must also never warm up your car in a garage.

"Carbon monoxide poisoning is preventable." said Anderst.

You can find a carbon monoxide safety checklist on the ATCO website.
