For the first time in over 20 years, Airdrie could be home to a AAA Midget Hockey team.

Some new decisions made by Hockey Alberta recently could pave the way for the CFR Chemicals Bisons to move from Strathmore to Airdrie for next season.

"Okotoks has requested and been granted a Midget AAA team" says Stacey Carefoot with Airdrie Minor Hockey Association, "A lot of those players who have been playing in Strathmore...will be moving to play in Okotoks."

That decision could eventually force the Bisons out of Strathmore as the zones for Hockey Alberta would be redrawn.

If the Bisons move to Airdrie, it would be a sweet homecoming for the team who set up their roots in the city over 20 years ago.

"The Bisons did play in AIrdrie in the early 1990's," says Carefoot, "Because of an ice scheduling conflict in approximately the 1992/93 season, that team moved out to Strathmore and has remained there ever since."

Although no decisions have been finalized from Hockey Alberta on the move, Carefoot says a team is already preparing for the possibility of welcoming the Airdrie Bisons to the city.

"We're looking at long term plans, short term plans, we're looking at doing what it takes to get that team competitive in Airdrie as soon as possible."
